Lazy daisy stitch embroidery is one of the basic type of embroidery stitch. This blog is about how to do a lazy daisy stitch embroidery in few simple steps. In this stitch a simple loop of thread is arranged in a group or individually to create a flower or a leaf. You can arrange these loops in a line to create chain stitch.

So, In this write up I shall show you the step by step  method to make a lazy daisy stitch embroidery on a fabric. The steps involved to create a lazy daisy stitch embroidery is easy and simple to do.

Now let me give you a brief description about the materials used in this type of embroidery.

Materials required to carry out lazy daisy stitch embroidery

  • Thread- Floss or Thread is the most important material used to do a embroidery on fabric. There are cotton floss and silk floss available in market and here I have used six strands cotton floss by Anchor. Moreover, there are lots of variety of shades in cotton floss as well as silk thread and here I have used three strands of cotton thread for this embroidery.

  • Needle- There are lots of variety of needles used in hand embroidery. In the present case, I have used a 2 inch long needle with thin body and sharp edge.
  • Fabric- You can use any kind of fabric for hand embroidery. However, among all, cotton and linen are widely used as its easy to handle. I have used white cotton fabric, which I have washed and ironed before use.
  • Embroidery Hoop- Embroidery Hoop is the frame where you have to attach the fabric to do the embroidery. Choose the size of hoop in such a manner so that it will not be too large or to small for the embroidery design. Now, hold the Fabric inside the hoop and tighten the screws for carrying out the embroidery, here I have used wooden hoop.
  • Apart from the above, some other materials which I have used are scissors, tracing design, yellow carbon paper and pencil.
All required materials

So, once you have collected all the materials required for the lazy daisy stitch embroidery as described above, you can follow the simple steps I have mentioned below for creating the embroidery design.

Steps involved to make a lazy daisy stitch embroidery

1. Design Tracing

  • To start the Lazy daisy stitch embroidery, first of all trace the design on the fabric by yellow carbon paper and start the embroidery. For this blog, I have collected the portrait from Pinterest. You can have your own design or can collect design from any copy write free sites.

2. Start The Embroidery

  • At the beginning, take a certain point on your fabric, e.g. point-1 shown at below picture.
  • Now pull out the needle from bottom through point-1 on the fabric.
  • In next step put the needle down through point-2. Keep a very small gap between point- 1 & 2 (shown in the below pic).
  • This time don’t pull the thread all way down.
Step-1 Step-2
  • After that, pull the needle up through point-3 and wrap the thread around the needle.
  • Then pull up the needle all way to create a loop as shown in below picture.
  • Here don’t make the loop tight, keep it a bit loose.
Step-3 Step-4
  • In next step, you have to attach the loop to the fabric by pulling the needle down on the other side (point-4) of the thread as shown in below picture (step-5).
  • You can have a complete look of the loop in the picture below..
Step-5 Complete loop
  • Likewise, as described above repeat the process to complete your design.

3. Additional uses

  • You can embroider a flower by creating this loop around a small circle and also individually a leaf.
  • Again by arranging these loops in a line, you can also create a chain stitch as shown in below picture.

  • Following the above steps, I have created a lavender bouquet using lazy daisy stitch and here is the complete look of the same. In this, the purple flowers are embroidered by lazy daisy stitch.
